Knitters across Scotland have knitted 46,000 little woolly hats to help keep older people warm and well in winter.
The hats are popped on innocent smoothie bottles throughout November, and for each one sold, innocent donates 25p to Age Scotland's Spread the Warmth campaign, helping to fund national and local winter projects.
To mark the tenth anniversary of the Big Knit, Age Scotland held a competition for 'Most Creative Hat'. There were many fantastic entries this year, many of which are showcased on our Tumblr site, but the decision of who should be the winner was just too much for us! So we roped in one of the stars of Luminate, Scotland's creative ageing festival to do it for us.
Playwright Sylvia Dow, whose first play 'A beginning, a middle, and an end' was written at the age of 73, this year created Threads, a new play inspired by research, oral history and local knitting circles.
Sylvia donned her judges hat and put her artistic acumen to the ultimate test …the winners came from far and wide:

We're grateful that so many local knitters have got behind the Big Knit – this campaign couldn't happen without your support. The funds raised will go a long way towards supporting local winter projects and aims to help older people keep warm and well this winter by providing information, advice and practical services.
You can buy a be-hatted smoothie from 6th November to help raise vital funds or create your own little virtual hat using the 'Big Knitter'. For every little hat shared on Facebook or Twitter, Age UK will receive 10p from innocent.
The hats can be found on the top of innocent bottles in the shape of fruit, animals, people or simply traditional bobble hats in Sainsbury's, ASDA, Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose, Ocado, WHSmith, Costa and Boots stores across the country from November 6th.
