Record Number of 50-64 Year Olds in Work

The latest employment figures show a record number of people aged 50-64 in work in the UK.  In the three months to the end of April, there were 3.98 million men and 3.48 million women aged 50-64 in work – the highest number since comparable records began in 1992. And for the first time, the employment rate of women working in this age group topped 60 per cent - although the employment rate for men in the age group (71.6 per cent) remains below that seen in 2008, just before the UK economy went into recession. Improved Employment Figures Trend Continues

The latest UK employment figures continue the more positive trend seen in recent months, although the picture remained mixed.  According to the Office for National Statistics, in the three months to the end of April: The number of people in work aged 16 and over rose by 166,000 on the previous 3 months to 29.28 million.  The employment rate for people aged16-64 increased by 0.3% on the previous three months to 70.6 percent. Unemployment fell by 51,000 to 2.61 million, but the number of people unemployed for 12 months or more went up by 30,000 (to 886,000). The Jobseeker’s Allowance Claimant Count…
