Official statistics released today by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show that workers in their fifties are more likely to opt out of automatic enrolment into workplace pension schemes, than any other age group. The DWP report was based on analysis of data provided by 42 employers, representing approximately 1.9 million workers. Of the 1.9 million workers represented in that data, around six in ten (61 per cent) were already members of a pension scheme prior to the introduction of automatic enrolment and almost a quarter (24 per cent) were automatically enrolled (approximately 460,000 workers).
